Alcohol and/or Drug Abuse Effects the Entire Family

Having an alcoholic or addict in the family brings the disease home. Not just the effected member of the family suffers but the family unit suffers. Feelings of helplessness, not understanding the problem, and not seeing an end to the troubles, has ended more than one marriage and torn countless families apart. Those who live with alcoholism and drug abuse often live in fear: fear of abuse, fear of anger, fear of trusting others.

It is important to remember that addiction is a disease that affects millions of Americans from all walks of life. As such, you are not alone. Thousands of families have gone through and are going through what you and your family are going through today.

Organizations like Al-Anon and Al-Alateen bring people like yourself together to share their strengths and hopes to find solutions for themselves and their families. These and other non-profit organizations are in most communities. If you are having trouble locating a group near your home please call the staff at ARP. We will be happy to help you in finding the help you need, even if the family member with the addiction, is not ready to help themselves yet.
